This year’s National Skills Week (25-31 August 2025) highlights the importance of skilled trades in building Australia’s future workforce. For the pool and spa industry, it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved through the recognition of our trades.
In 2024, SPASA and Institute of Research and Learning (IRLearning) advocacy led to the creation of new OSCA codes for Swimming Pool and Spa Building and Swimming Pool and Spa Service, ensuring these professions were finally acknowledged as distinct trades.
This National Skills Week, IRLearning is taking the opportunity to shine a light on the nationally recognised qualifications that align with these codes, showcasing clear training pathways for aspiring professionals and reinforcing the industry’s professional standing.
Recognised Training Pathways:
Certificate IV in Swimming Pool and Spa Building (CPC40820)
Linked to OSCA Code 369932 – Swimming Pool and Spa Builder
Certificate III in Swimming Pool and Spa Service (CPP31218)
Linked to OSCA Code 899937 – Swimming Pool or Spa Technician
Year-to-date, enrolments in New South Wales for IRLearning’s Certificate III in Swimming Pool and Spa Service traineeships have increased by 277%, reflecting significant growth in demand for nationally recognised training within the sector.
IRLearning is proud to deliver qualifications that strengthen our industry. With OSCA codes now in place, these nationally recognised courses ensure our workforce is not only skilled but formally recognised as trades, giving our sector the respect, pathways, and future it deserves.
