CPP31218 is a nationally recognised Australian qualification developed for people working in, or looking to enter, the swimming pool and spa servicing industry.
In New Zealand, this type of work is commonly referred to as pool valeting, with pool valets, valet technicians and service technicians responsible for maintaining pools, managing water quality and keeping pool equipment operating effectively.
The qualification covers key areas including:
Pool and spa water testing and water quality
Safe handling and storage of pool chemicals
Circulation and filtration systems
Dosing and sanitation systems
Pool cleaning and routine maintenance
Pool and spa equipment
Workplace safety and customer service
It provides a structured pathway for those wanting to learn the trade, while also giving experienced industry professionals the opportunity to formalise and expand their existing skills.
Experienced pool valets, service technicians and other industry professionals may be able to achieve some or all of the qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
RPL assesses the skills and knowledge gained through work experience, previous training and industry experience. The amount of RPL available will depend on each learner’s experience and the evidence they can provide.
While learners can complete the learning components online, CPP31218 is a practical, competency-based qualification.
Learners will need ongoing access to suitable swimming pools and spas, together with the chemicals, stock, tools, equipment and pool systems required to complete practical assessment activities.
You do not necessarily need to be employed as a pool valet or service technician; however, you must have access to an appropriate workplace or industry environment where you can demonstrate the practical skills required.
SPASA Training will discuss these requirements with prospective learners before enrolment.
CPP31218 is an Australian nationally recognised qualification, not an NZQA qualification.
New Zealand has NZQA-recognised training in specific areas of pool operation, including Unit Standard 20046 – Monitor pool water quality and store pool water treatment chemicals. CPP31218 is broader in scope and covers the wider skills required to service and maintain swimming pools and spas.
If an aligned New Zealand qualification or pathway is developed in the future, competencies completed through CPP31218 may potentially support credit or Recognition of Prior Learning, subject to the requirements in place at that time.
For New Zealanders who may choose to work in Australia in the future, CPP31218 also has additional value. The qualification is nationally recognised in Australia and forms part of swimming pool servicing licensing pathways in some Australian states and territories.
Whether you are already working as a pool valet or service technician, operate a pool servicing business, or are looking to enter the industry, SPASA Training can help you build the practical and technical skills required for professional pool servicing.
CPP31218 Certificate III in Swimming Pool and Spa Service is now available online to New Zealand learners who can meet the practical assessment requirements of the qualification.
