The Climate Care Certification Program is an initiative of the Swimming Pool & Spa Association of Australia Ltd (SPASA). It is the industry’s new efficiency and sustainability certification program.
SPASA is proud to deliver an industry wide program to support, protect and promote the way the swimming pool and spa industry operates and strives for best practice sustainable solutions.
A CLIMATE CARE CERTIFIED PRODUCT, SYSTEM OR INSTALLATION/RETROFIT/CONSTRUCTION IS ONE THAT CREATES A NEW BENCHMARK FOR SWIMMING POOLS AND SPAS WHICH UTILISES:

By participating in the Climate Care Certification Program, members of SPASA can promote their products, services and installations under an industry approved, environmentally sustainable program.
SPASA has partnered with Smart Approved WaterMark to provide credible verification of a member’s water saving claims. Smart Approved WaterMark is ‘The Certification Partner for Water Efficient Products for Climate Care Certified’.
Examples of products, systems and installations certified under the Climate Care Certification Program may include (but are not limited to):

✓ Pre-filtration devices or backwash minimisation systems

PRODUCT & SYSTEM CRITERIA
WELL-DESIGNED PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS CAN HELP THE ENVIRONMENT AND ASSIST CONSUMERS TO SAVE WATER, ENERGY AND MONEY.
Whilst there are several voluntary testing bodies and accreditation schemes such as Smart Approved WaterMark, Universities, NATA Accredited Laboratories and the E3 Program, there is no industry specific register for consumers to be able to search. The Climate Care Certification Program will meet this need.
Applications for Climate Care Certification follow a process that utilises independent third party sources to remove all conflicts of interest. Applications are assessed and granted by an appointed panel. The panel is made up of individuals who are held in high regard and recognised as experts in their field.The panel’s role is to verify the claims made aga nst third party verification evidence provided. Applications for Products and Systems should address the below criteria:

THIRD-PARTY VERIFICATION
Participants of Climate Care Certified must engage independent third-party testing and/or verification providers to assess and report on claims being made such as water efficiency and energy savings.
There are various local, national and international testing and verification bodies that SPASA considers credible, trusted and able to properly test and/or verify claims being made on energy and water efficiency and sustainability. Examples of acceptable bodies may include (but are not limited to) the following:

✓ Smart Approved WaterMark – Water efficient product verification
(Certification Partner for Water Efficient Products – special rates available to SPASA members)
✓ Government Endorsed Schemes, such as the E3 Program–Energy efficiency verification of pumps
Testing authorities:
✓ National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA)
✓ International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC)
✓ SAI GLOBAL Product Services Product Compliance Program
✓ Universities and other relevant institutions

COMPLIANCE REFERENCES
Assurance of compliance is necessary to ensure that Products, Systems and Installations are designed, manufactured or installed to meet market and consumer needs, while complying with all relevant Regulations, Standards, Licences and Codes.

INSTALLATION / RETROFIT / CONSTRUCTION CRITERIA
SPASA Pool and Spa Builders, Installers, Designers and Service Technicians can also participate by rewarding their customers by meeting the Climate Care Certification criteria, which may include selecting correct technologies and piping layouts, installing pool covers, variable speed pumps to enhance water efficiency and energy savings.
The number of prescribed criteria to qualify as Climate Care Certified is based on the size/volume of the pool or spa, as follows:

✓ Pool covers (must complete SPASA Pool Cover Certification Guidelines)
✓ Solar Heating
✓ Spa Lids
✓ Backwash, water treatment and recycling systems
✓ Backwash minimisation systems or pre-filtration devices
✓ Energy efficient pool pumps (E3 program)
✓ Any noise reduction measures
✓ Robotic and other cleaners
✓ Cartridge filters
✓ Filter medium
✓ Led pool lighting
✓ Rainwater tanks
✓ Down pipe diverters (harvest rooftop catchment)
✓ Over-flow storage tanks
✓ 30mm coping over-hang (minimise splash out)
✓ Pool location/landscaping (minimise exposure to evaporative wind)
✓ Hydraulic efficient plumbing e.g. sweep elbows instead of 90-degree elbows.
✓ Minimum 50mm plumbing (state minimum diameter plumbing depending on size of pool and flow rates)
✓ Smart meter or other approved controllers, chlorinators
✓ Any registered SPASA Climate Care Certified product or service
*Any other verifiable system design or installation element(s)
PROGRAM REGISTRATION
As part of the registration process, all products, systems and installations submitted for registration will undergo a claims verification process undertaken by a SPASA appointed panel prior to being provided with the Climate Care Certification.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT & LOGOS
Climate Care Certification provides SPASAmembers with an array of promotional materials, to use in highlighting environmentally
sustainable swimming pools and spas, that utilise certified products, systems, builders and suppliers. It recognises the contribution
Climate Care Certified participants make to the environment, swimming pool industry and community.
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
SPASA manufacturer and/or supplier members who participate and achieve Climate Care Certification will be eligible to use a Climate Care Certified logo(s) in advertising and marketing materials to promote their product or system status.
Each certification granted will be provided with its own unique reference number allocated to it, for companies that have multiple certificates.
CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLATIONS AND RENOVATIONS
SPASA Pool and Spa Builders, Installers, Designers and Service Technicians can also participate by rewarding their customers by meeting the Climate Care Certification criteria, which may include selecting correct technologies and piping layouts, installing pool cover, variable speed pumps to enhance water effiency and energy savings.
Pool owners would be supplied with stickers and/or decals which they could affix to their homes, fence posts and/or wheelie bins to promote the fact that their pool and/or spa is environmentally friendly and Climate Care Certified.
Rewarding or acknowledging pool owner’s efforts in choosing environmentally sustainable swimming pools and spas, further
promotes positive pool and spa ownership to other consumers and organisations.
PROGRAM ONLINE REGISTER
SPASA will provide a web presence showing Climate Care Certified products and systems, which have been certified for environmental sustainability. The Register will be managed by SPASA and will cater for products and systems, and be promoted to consumers, industry, government and regulators.
