General Building Licensing Information

TASMANIA

The process of getting a Builders' license in Tasmania is managed and regulated by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services.

Licensing

Individuals are required to be licensed when they carry out work in construction, demolition, alteration, addition, relocation or repair of any building.  There is no minimum dollar threshold for which a license is required.

License Types

  • Builder or Construction Manager (low rise)
  • Builder or Construction Manager (medium rise)
  • Builder (open) 

License Application

Experience

  • Two years in the scope of work for those applicants with a building trade qualification (carpentry, bricklaying, etc.)
  • Four years in the scope of work for those applicants without a trade qualification
  • Referees statements

Applicants may also be asked to attend an interview.

  • Builder (open) - Advanced diploma of building and construction management or building degree
