The process of getting a Builders' licence in ACT is managed and regulated by the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate – Planning.
Licensing
In the ACT, builders need to be licensed and must apply under the Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004 and meet all the eligibility requirements.

Financial Requirements
Evidence of financial resources is required to help demonstrate your ability to fulfil contractual obligations when providing construction services
Building Insurance Requirements
Builders must have a residential building insurance policy or a fidelity certificate, which protects the owner against defective and incomplete work. Builders need to show evidence of their insurance to a client before providing a service. This includes advising the client if they do not have insurance.
Note: Does not apply to swimming pools.
